My fave Gerry Anderson shows are UFO, Space:1999 and Thunderbirds. UFO was the original inspiration for Damon Dark. I watched the episode "Timelash" when I was 11 and I thought, "wow, what if they made a show where every episode was like that one!" And that was where Damon Dark came from!
One thing about Gerry Anderson, I think he was far ahead of his time in terms of production values. Whenever I think of a show being well made or well produced, I think of his shows.
The use of color in Space:1999 is amazingly clever. What really strikes me about it is, many of the images are black and white, save for one single color part in the middle of the shot.
The sets for Moonbase Alpha are white, with black panels and the people wear white uniforms with a colored sleeve to indicate rank. So often you see these colored sleeves and colored indicator lights and the actor's skin color is the only color. The rest of the image is black and white.
And in the space shots, the Moon is grey, the ships are white, space is black and often the only color is a red or purple or blue planet in the middle of the shot.
It's a striking use of color that makes it eye catching viewing, decades after it started.
